1. He alth program for pregnant and lactating mothers

Services provided by posyandu to pregnant women include pregnancy check-ups and nutritional monitoring. Not only examinations, pregnant women can also conduct consultations regarding preparation for childbirth and breastfeeding.

In order to maintain pregnancy conditions, pregnant women can get the TT vaccine to prevent tetanus which is still common in developing countries like Indonesia.

After giving birth, mothers will also get vitamin A supplements and iron tablets which are good for consumption during breastfeeding. Not only that, the mother can also install contraceptives (KB) at the posyandu if possible.

2. Infant and toddler he alth program

One of the main programs of the posyandu is to hold regular check-ups for babies and toddlers. This is important to do to monitor children's growth and development and detect child development disorders from an early age.

The types of services provided by the Posyandu for toddlers include weighing, measuring children's height and head circumference, evaluating growth and development, as well as counseling and developmental counseling.

3. Family Planning (KB)

4. Immunization

Compulsory immunization is one of the government programs that requires every child under 1 year of age to be vaccinated. In this case, posyandu is one of the parties that has the right to organize the immunization program.

5. Monitoring nutritional status

Through nutrition monitoring activities, posyandu play an important role in preventing the risk of stunting in children. Nutrition services at posyandu include weighing and measuring height, early detection of growth disorders, nutrition counseling, and supplementation.

If pregnant women are found with chronic energy deficiency conditions (KEK) or toddlers whose growth is not according to age, posyandu cadres can refer the patient to the puskesmas.

6. Diarrhea prevention and control

Diarrhea prevention is carried out through counseling on Clean and He althy Lifestyle (PHBS). Meanwhile, the handling of diarrhea is done through the administration of ORS. If further treatment is needed, he alth workers can provide zinc supplements.

In addition, posyandu has development activities or options that include Family Development for Toddlers (BKB), Family Medicinal Plants (TOGA), Family Development for Elderly (BKL), and Early Childhood Education (PAUD). These development activities are generally carried out when the 6 main activities have been carried out properly.

The Importance of Participating in Posyandu Activities

Posyandu activities and their benefits can be obtained without incurring costs, thus greatly reducing the economic burden of the community. In addition, posyandu is also very important to follow because it has many other benefits, such as:

  • Providing various information regarding maternal and child he alth, such as breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and disease prevention
  • Monitoring the growth and development of children, so that children avoid the risk of malnutrition or malnutrition
  • To detect early if there are abnormalities in children, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers, so that treatment can be done immediately
  • Provide complete immunization

Posyandu can also be a means for mothers to increase knowledge and share experiences about maternal and child he alth, both with he alth workers and with other posyandu participants. With good knowledge, it is hoped that the quality of maternal and child he alth can improve.

Posyandu can also immediately refer the child to a doctor or he alth facility if the child has fever, cough, runny nose, and diarrhea, and when the child's weight is below the red line.
