Warning Before Taking Fingolimod

Before taking this medicine, you need to pay attention to the following things:

  • Do not take fingolimod if you are allergic to this drug. Always tell your doctor about any allergies you have.
  • Tell your doctor if in the past six months you have had angina pectoris, severe heart failure, stroke, heart attack, minor stroke (transient ischemic attack (TIA), or a dangerous heart rhythm disorder, such as AV block. Fingolimod should not be given to patients with this condition.
  • Tell your doctor if you are taking certain antiarrhythmic drugs, such as amiodarone or quinidine. Fingolimod should not be used together with these drugs.

  • Avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during treatment with fingolimod, as this drug can cause the skin to become more sensitive to light. Always use sunscreen when you are outdoors.
  • Do not get vaccinated while taking fingolimod or 2 months after the last dose without consulting your doctor first.

If you forget to take fingolimod, it is recommended to do it immediately if the gap between the next consumption schedule is not too close. If it's close, ignore it and don't double the dose.

  • Enhanced arrhythmogenic effects of class Ia antiarrhythmic drugs, such as quinidine, or class III, such as amiodarone

Side Effects and Dangers of Fingolimod

Some of the side effects that can occur after using fingolimod are:

  • Headache
  • Back pain
  • Pain in hands or feet
  • Nausea or stomachache
  • Diarrhea
  • Inflammation of the sinuses (sinusitis), cough, or flu symptoms

Consult a doctor if the side effects above do not subside immediately or are getting worse. Immediately see a doctor if you experience a drug allergic reaction or more serious side effects, such as:

  • Change the size or color of the mole
  • Swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy)
  • Infectious disease, which can be characterized by fever, persistent cough, or sore throat that doesn't go away
